Many people may not have heard of Google Plus and so therefore will not understand the simple benefits a Google Plus Profile could bring in terms of internet search results for the small business.

What is Google Plus?
Google plus is an Internet based social network that is owned and operated by Google. Google is now the top player in the search engine world.

Why Should My Business Be on Google Plus?
It is owned and operated by Google, so like ‘You Tube’ and ‘Google Places for Business’, Google plus profiles will have perks in getting ranked by Google.

Instead of ‘likes’ on Facebook, Google Plus has ‘+1’s’. Therefore the more +1’s your posts get the easier it is for Google to know that your content is being read and shared which can have a significant impact on search rankings.

Benefits of a Google Plus Profile
Within the ‘About’ section of your profile you can write about your business and services. In this description you can include links and keywords and even link to your other social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram. Google will end up using this as your page’s meta description when it shows up in search results so make it count!

Google Plus People
The way to increase your exposure on Google Plus is to add people to your circles and they will hopefully add you back. Share content that you find interesting or of value, both your own and others. Everything that you share creates an immediate link back to your own profile. +1 other people’s content or comment on it. All of this social interaction increases your exposure and likelihood of your own content been shared and commented on.

In short you increase the odds of getting targeted visitors from Google’s organic search results if you have a Google Plus account.

How to Set up at Google Plus Profile for your Business
Firstly you need a personal Google Plus profile in order to set up a business profile and the rest will follow. Just remember to make sure the profiles are all linked correctly, especially to your Google Places For Business site.   Your Google Places page allows you to control what information Google has and presents searchers about your business.

My ‘Introductory Offer’ to social media management would include setting up a Google Plus Profile but I can also do this at an hourly rate.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or to arrange a meeting.  I am based in Rangiora, North Canterbury but happy to travel to Christchurch and surrounding suburbs in the South Island, New Zealand.
